know problems with f4i?
Hi, I'm new here and have just been lurking around.Anyways, story is: Ifinally thought I'd go ahead with getting a bike. Just a week ago I got my learners license (m1).
I'm now in the process of looking for a bike. Probably gonna be getting a 2002 f4i. I was just wondering if there are any known issues I've gotta look for. Cuz you know how there are certain problems for cars (maybe a lemon). I honestly don't know much about bikes and anything can help. I know I should bring it to a mechanic but I probably wont be able to.
Anything you think I should look out for will help. Thanks alot.

I dont know its just luck but you are lurking in the right forum.
The F4i is the most ergonomic of all the modern sportbikes. Thats why I
and a lot of others dont buy the CBR600RR.
As everyone has said the Cam Chain Tensioner (stock) will start to clatter around
5-8k miles. Its a $50 fix if you are handy. You may not notice it if you buy a bike
that is already chattering cause you might think its normal engine noise.

RE: know problems with f4i?
I've got a 2001 F4i and I just replaced the cam chain tensioner with a factory automatic one, mainly because the automatic one was in stock and the manual one would have had to be ordered.I didn't want to wait for it. You'll know it needs to be replaced because you'll hear a loud rattling around 4-8RPM that's ungodly annoying. Not hard to install, the hardest part was the angle you have work at to get the old one out. Take the fairing off, lift up the gas tank and it's down behind the frame. But be careful not to remove the little t-lock looking thing in the end of it until it's installed, if you do, it will uncoil the spring and you'll have to dis-assemble it and re-coil it manually, which is a bitch! Learned by mistake.
