Cool K&N for 2002 F4I 600

I bought a K&N filter for my CBR 600 F4I. When i went to install it I noticed that it does not have a housing around it to guide air like the OEM. No big deal but it made for a loose fit. Am I missing something? is there a way to separate the original filter from the plastic surrounding? It looks like a single piece. Is it even necessary?

Any Thoughts, ideas, experience please help.

Tim

Are you sure you have the "this side up" side up? I put mine in tonight and it fits nice and snug...

Or, the filter is rightside up and your bike is upside down... Think about it...

+1 on the filter being upside down. Happened to me and took me a few minutes before I went "DOH....." and then quietly flipped it over and hoped my buddy working in the garage with me didn't see my mistake.

And no, the plastic housing on the stock filter that guides the air does NOT detatch from the original filter....i tried that too....lol DOH

It should just drop in line the other filter. It won't be as 100% perfect like the OEM one, but it goes in just fine. If I recall, there's a flat pieces that sticks up in the air on the side towards the front of the bike.

yea im positive it is in the right way. It just has nothing that holds it down other than that one little tab. And it doesn't seem that snug at all. I can wiggle it around in the housing. Without the power commander It feels like its just choking on o2 when riding. I noticed power loss on the low end. I need to get a proper mapping.
