Just placed an order - Did I do good or bad ?
Hey guys,
first of all I want to thank everybody who helped me with my research I love this forum I just placed an order for chain & sprockets kit for my 05, F4i (25k miles). I bought it for Motomummy (free shipping), otherwise Hard racing had best price (but + $12.75 shipping).
So I ended doing the 520 conversion - getting "All Steel (both)" Driven sprockets with EK MVXZ chain (rated 1000cc in Black color) for $175 Total delivered. Did I do good or bad? Or could've done better ?
Thanks!

When I went from 530 to a 520 conversion recently I stay with steel sprockets because I heard they last much longer. The weight difference wasn't all that much. I carefully weighed all the old parts and the new ones. The difference was 12oz. That's not a whole lot when you consider the bike weighs over 400 lbs.

I prefer 520 because yes its lighter weight but more importantly its the most common size used which makes 520 chains cheaper then 525. 520's are availible with much more strength then an f4i will ever need and have proven [to myself at least] to last as long as 525's so why not.

My reasons:
1. I could get an Average 525 chain + some heavy sprockets in a cheap/mediocre brand for $150-$170 range (shipped) no-name brand, just cheap kit. Driven (quite popular sprockets) and EK (MVXZ) also very popular -1000cc bike chain.......strong & high quality for the same price as a mediocre 525....so why not?
2. A higher quality 520 is the same price, and a higher quality 520 would last longer, than the mediocre 525, so why not?
3. Though i don't need it, it would give me satisfaction/comfort knowing I'm riding the same chain/sprockets kit that a 1000 bike has.
4. Now if I get any weight savings too, again, why not?
5. And if it LOOKS nicer in gloss Black / Gold, why not?
I'm paying less for a chain / sprocket combo with better everything in a 520 conversion, so why not?
Just MY crazy reasons, but I could be wrong. Still a noob learning, that's why I'm here & asking questions.
Thanks!
