RE: Just joined the club
Welcome,
Yes thats low miles fora 01. just remember to take care of it. change oil every 3000 miles, watch yourslack on the chain, and replace brake pads when needed. don't worry about how fast they go. (it's fast)I think you should try babby steps!no joke..there isneed to go kill yourself to just to see how fast it can go! I Recommend riding with more experienced riders, and hit up the track a few times so you can see what your bike can do. and then start pushing the limit.
Pics are good.
I think the 16,000 is a valve adjustment.
I haven't done mine yet. 18000, still runs great.
laters.

good to hear that you've got experience was your ninja a 250/500/650?
it's just typical for us to react with "watch out, be safe" as 1) we don't want to hear of another fallen rider, 2) more fallen riders = higher insurance
as far as mileage, I got the YZF w/ 29k and didn't have to do any major maintenance in the 7 months I had it, also had a 1yr warranty w/ it though as I got it from a dealer and only issue I had was the gasket on the bottom of the tank went bad and had to make a make-shift gasket to get the bike back down to Champaign for the dealer to do it... was a rude wake-up call when I get to the bike in the morning and there's a huge puddle of gasoline on my driveway [:-]
the spokesman for high-mileage on here is thirdgenlxi... 121k and counting as well as 386k+ on his 89 Accord!!!!
also it's scary that I'm acting like an "experienced" member and I've only been on here for 4 days... I guess it's the 7+ yrs I spent posting on 3si.org as well as other various boards that brings that out in me

Typically the key hole for the rear seat cowl is located slightly below and to the left or right of the taillight. It uses the same key as your ignition does. If the guy you bought it from had a undertail or fender eliminator put on, it was most likely moved. It could possibly be somewhere farther underneath the fender/undertail. It can only be moved maybe (guessing lengthwise) a foot or so from its original location given the existing length of the cable. It should be somewhere around there, might just be camoflauged real good.
Here's where mine is (everyone is allowed to make fun of me for how horrible my undertail is. The guy I bought it from last august simply chopped it off, and I havent really decided what to do yet lol. I'm lazy)
