They will come on as a warning.. i have driven past them before and haven't had to push the bike yet ... But yes its a good practice to start thinking about a gas station within 50 miles when they come on!

^I've sputtered before, and just killed my bike and coasted into the station.

I just ignore those bars. I always put 3 gallons in when I fill up so I know that around mile 120 its about time to head to a gas station. Wish I knew who's bright idea it was to not have a fuel guage.

Mine usually come on around 120 miles after a fill up, all four are flashing by around 140 miles, then I've ridden to 160 miles and still had a gallon left. They're not very accurate considering the manual says they're supposed to come on when there's around a gallon left. I usually just go ahead and fill up fairly soon after they come on, which usually takes about three gallons. I wouldn't try to guess by the miles though. Gas mileage varies a lot by where you ride and how hard you ride. I get around 35mpg in town, 35 to 40 mpg riding back roads, and as high as 51.5mpg when slabbing at the speed limit, so how far that last gallon can go will vary.
