Default I think I need a new chain

Well I went to tighten up my chain and it looks like when I do I will be in the part that says I need a new chain. My question is what kind? I did some quick looking around and found big price differences and different amounts of links and so on. I have only had the bike for about 3 weeks and don't know what I should get. My bike has a vortex spocket from previous owner I dont know if that changes anything or not. So some help and recomendations on where/what to get would be apprieciated!

If the sprockets are a different size than stock it will throw the chain wear indicator on the swingarm way off. You'll have to judge the chain condition by visual inspection (wear, rust, dirty, etc.) and knowing how many miles it has on it. I just changedmy front sprocket to -1 and the chain wear indicator went from 'good' to on the edge of 'replace'. If you replace the chain you also need to replace the sprockets.

Most the people I have talked to go with DID chains (I went with a 520 ZVM2 on my 1000RR). RK is another good brand. Be sure to get a rivet link and not a clip link

Driven and AFAM make some of the best sprockets. It's always a good idea to change the sprckets anytime you change the chain.

as stated it is best to change both the chain and the sprockets at the same time due to wear factors. Driven makes awesome sprockets and also packages up a kit with an RK Gold chain. Really nice setup.

There are a couple of different brands out there, DID and RK are popular. If you have to replace your chain, your probably gonna need to replace your sprockets. This is the time you would make the 520 conversion. The stock F4i comes with the 525 chain, that is the strength and weight of the chain. The 520 is lighter but since your bike isn't a 1000 you can go with the 520. Your bike has a stock 16/46 sprockets set up. 16 teeth in the front and 46 teeth on the rear sprocket. If you change your sprockets, you can minus one tooth in the front, make it 15 with 46 in the rear, this will give you more low end torque. It will also throw your speedometer off, you will think you are going faster than you really are. The drawback also is you will lose a few mph on your top end. Instead of doing...example 165, you can only do like 158 mph.

I did the 520 conversion with a 15/46 sprocket setup and I love it. Good luck.

don't do the 520 unless you're tracking it...you won't notice the difference, other than price and chain longevity.

stick to 525 and change your gearing instead...and stick to DID...
