Default I think I killed my alternator

I've been jumping my bike while waiting for my battery to come. Only using another bike to jump with, so I'm not overpowering it. It starts and when I take off the cables it dies.
Do you think I killed my alternator?

I have had a battery short internally on a car, it would suck all the juice available to the point where none would be left over to run the car. Maybe you are experiencing something similar.

Yea its the same thing battery could be so dead that taking the jumpers off killes the bike. I had 11 freestyles at work ud jump it and run em for 2hrs then go to drive 50feet and it would die.

It would be hard to kill an alternator with just a battery, since al it is, is a big coil of wire. You need a lot of current before it'll heat up and die! Also, it usually has diodes to prevent current from bike battery going into the alternator... or else the alternator would short out the battery!

A fuse/rectifier could have blown preventing the alternator current from getting to the electronics

Okay, good. I'll go check the fuses. Are there any besides below the seat?
I was thinking alternator cause I had been working it harder than it should be and don't any better. haha.

There is a remote possibility that the battery is very dead and causing this. So if you have a spare, put that in and check. This is only because the alternator usually puts out a noisy voltage which the battery smooths out. If the battery is really dead, maybe the voltage is not smooth anymore, causing the electronics to hiccup.
I've never seen this happen... theoretical possibility :P

I just ordered a battery. Should be here Thursday/Friday. The battery is super dead. Won't even turn on the clock. I called the local sport shop and they said they could look over my charging system for 80 bucks. What else could I look at?
There weren't any blown fuses under the seat. Are there fuses anywhere else?

Its the battery, dont worry about checking the charging system until u put the battery in. And alternators dont die that easily even on bikes.

Put the battery in then with a voltmerer (buy one at sears for 20$ its worth it) check to see what the voltage is with the bike running should be higher then 13.5, if its anywhere below that say below 13votls then ur alternator could be bad. Could also be ur rectifier.

Change the battery then worry. You should not be riding around with a bad battery either

How do I find and check my rectifier?
