Angry I am confused and frustrated

I bought a 2006 cbr f4i a while ago and I'm starting to take on the project of restoring it. I can't find parts that fit this f'n bike. Nothing fits. I've checked the vin several times it's for sure an f4i. So to avoid any possible errors on the manufacturers side or shippers side I bought fairings off the same year as mine and the whole tail piece and seat ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. The left and right pieces look like they may bolt up but Im about to scrap the thing. So I look inside the "trunk" and there is a sticker CBR600F42. There is 0 information on the cbr 600 f42 when I Google it. Can anyone here please tell me what I got and how I can find parts for this thing? Will the front half of the fairings/cowlings atlest bolt up?

F42 is 2nd-gen F4=F4i . Model names often aren't finalised until later in production. For example, F1 was never called that until F2 came out.

Post photo of your VIN plate with dates.
Post photos of your bike
Post photos of fairing pieces you got.

Did you buy OEM fairings from authorised Honda dealer? If not, that's where mix-up occurred. Aftermarket vendors are horrible and don't know a thing about bikes. Just middleman ordering from factories and drop-shipping to you. I always make them send me photos of actual fairings they're sending me installed on bike so I know exactly what it looks like and where mounting holes line up. If they can't do that, I skip them and move on to some other outfit with better bike knowledge and good customer service.

@Nate_Lake Hi and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've got a great project? What was the condition of the bike when you purchased it? Do you know anything about it's history or have any information from the previous owner? When the CBR600F4i came out in 2001, it had a stepped seat. Honda wanted to make a distinction between the F4i and the CBR600RR which came out in 2003, so the changed the seat and rear sub-frame on the F4i to a single seat, or what some refer to as a banana seat. Many owners of the later 2004-2006 models would make a swap with the rear sub-frame and mount the tail section of the earlier 2001-2003 F4i's so they would have what they thought was a more sportier look. So, tail fairings are not interchangable between them without a subframe swap. It's possible that is the situation you're in. Post up some photos of your bike and maybe we'll be able to tell.

Here is the 2003 CBR600F4i

Here is the 2004 CBR600F4i

Most 2006 models have the one-piece seat for rider & passenger.

Is that what you have on your F4i?

What specific parts are you looking for your bike?

Where are you located in PA?

Thank you for the variation on what the 2 means. Yeah I have read all the horror stories on here about after market fairings and I can't afford what the dealership charges for new fairings so I found a scratched up used set that came directly off an f4i. I fiberglass patched and painted the small hole, sanded the deep scratches down and filled them and hit the whole side with 3000 grit and gave it a good compound and waxing looks like it just came off the show room floor 😏 now I did buy two sets of rear pegs that came off f4i and they aren't even close to my bike. There is a motorcycle shop I'm friends with with a scrap yard of bikes I went and a gsxr idk what year but their rear pegs were and exact fit and was able to bend the exhaust to fit the exhaust mount

Things are never simple bolt-on jobs with bikes. You're pretty crafty and resourceful! That's some pretty awesome work! Please post some photos on how it turned out!

There are techniques to fit flexible, aftermarket fairings onto a bike without much difficulty, I've mounted a few sets onto Hondas & others.
I suspect there are horror stories about aftermarket plastic because people are not familiar with the technique to fit and secure plastics properly.
Like dannoxyz said: things are never simple bolt-on jobs with bikes, especially bikes that have been damaged; misaligned brackets, bolt holes, stripped threads, all make fitting aftermarket parts more difficult.

@Al1040 had a good experience with a set he bought a while back. You might check his thread on it...

I bought some as well (and have a thread here: https://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-...irings-161751/ ). I'd use them again.
