Default How much did you guys pay for your tyres/mounting?

I'm about to buy a new set of Pilot PPs, not 2CTs because I don't plan on doing any track days in the near future and just personally have no need for the 11% softer compound.

The shop I'm going to is charging me (after some negotiating over the phone) $221 for a set of Pilot Powers, and $39 a wheel to do the mounting, so it comes out to about $300 + Tax for the entire thing.

I would bring in the wheels myself to save on mounting and labor, but I don't have stands or a garage atm unfortunately

Do you guys think that's a fair total price for tyres and mounting?

Thanks in advance!

I paid $198 for my Q2 and $80 for mounting on the bike. Every year my local shop has 1/2 off mounting the last week of March, so this year I jumped on it. If I was to go their now it would cost $160 to mount both tires.

Wow, that is crazy. For $50 you can buy a tire iron and balancer and do it yourself! Not sure how these places can justify charging so much.

My place is 10 on and 10 off if the wheels are off the bike. $25 each way if ya bring the bike in.

Any recommendations, F4? I'd considered buying a tire removing tool, but I got the impression that the cheap ones suck and the expensive ones are a ton of money.

This guy goes a bit overboard, but you get the idea.

YouTube - ‪Change a motorcycle tyre by hand.‬‏

You can break the bead by driving over it with your car. The rest can be done with a tire iron and a bit of effort.

Motorcycle Wheel Balancer w/ Stand

Probably the same type your local shop uses.

From my experience it is a HUGE pain in the butt to change tires yourself, most shops where i live charge $25 for the rim off the bike and $35 with it still attached. Unless you have the proper tools it can take forever.

It's $6 disposal fee where i take my bike

Well one cost legit shops won't eat is the tire disposal fee. Unless they send you home with the old tires, they have to pay to hae them disposed of properly. If you buy the tire from them, they likely include it in whatever deal they offer.

But if you take in your own rims, it'll usually be listed on the invoice separately

I paid $400 for that exact thing... so yes, that is extremely fair.

$39 a wheel is within the price range; the avg price is from $25 to $50 per wheel. I dont think you are getting a deal, but you are not getting raped either.

My local shop is $30 to change the tire out. $20 if you take the wheel off the bike for them.
