Default I just went with the Hotbodies Undertail

I just went with the unpainted Hotbodies undertail for 129.95 from 58cycle. I spray painted it black. $100 cheaper that way, and if I ever need to touch up or repaint, it is simple!! I am extremely happy with the outcome. Did it myself with the one page directions. Just be extremely careful cutting the rear fender off. Uses the same key lock I already had, which is behind the license plate. (Slips right in)
I am pretty sure it would appease any law enforcement. Bright led blinkers, license plate light etc..
I did take pics when I was installing, and where I made the cuts. Message me if you need the pics.

I'll have to move the plate back and see is that gets me a signature.
The thing is, the goon never even mentioned the plate location and easily wrote my tag number down while sitting in his car.

I was also looking for a way to make a temporary "stock looking fender" with reflectors and all that i could just slap up there till i get it reinspected (without much luck).

Trent: I have That same undertail on almost the same bike (nice color btw!) and the last thing that I would call the LEDs that come in it would be the word "bright". In the direct sun, they are almost invisible. I just went with an integrated sequential tail light from CA to remedy that..

Sick: that sucks about the trooper.. Unfortunately, they can technically bust your ***** about anything that isnt DOT.. Not that they should.. I would think that if you moved the plate back a bit and mounted it with some small 90 degree "L" brackets, that would be fine...

Good luck!

It's funny you mention that, because I am already planning to replace the tail light with just that. They are cheap and pretty easy to replace. I did not know the direct sun had such an impact on them. I will make sure to use my hand signals in the day as much as possible. Guess I am lucky to live in San Diego. Especially where I am at in the mountains.(Julian) Crap load of bikers ride up here. Troopers would be giving hundreds of tickets a month if they nitpicked! oh and Turbulenz, It looks like you have the same color! If you ever need to change fairings, motorcyclefairingsrus.com is where I got mine. Very happy with the color match to my stock fuel tank, and fitment was great.

Hey, looks like a very nice setup. Curious is you have any more photos of where you cut the original undertail, and if there is anything you would do differently if you did it again? Thanks
