Don't know if this helps any, but my dads friend has a harley and his would run perfectly fine until it got down to a certain level. It would start to pop and carry on and not want to run. The problem was that one of the hoses inside of the tank had a pin size hole in it near the bottom and once gas was no longer covering it, the bike would then start to act up.

Well I pulled my fuel pump last night and good god almighty if that wasn't the problem. There was so much crap that came out of it it was ridiculous. It looked liked I dipped the strainer in mud. Needless to say I've already ordered a new fuel pump and I'm going to flush my tank again. I think once this is all done the bike should run like a charm. If you saw this thing when I took it out....lol I'm surprised it even ran.

i hope you get it all out, running even small bits of rust through your injectors is not good

personally i'd kreme the tank, and to whoever said use ball bearings inside the tank, that's generally prep for kremeing (spelling?) a tank

Sure. I pulled the tank but I did not Kreme it. I spoke to a number of people and they said the Kreme kit was difficult to do right so I said screw it. I completley drained the tank and hosed down the inside as best I could on high pressure. I then sand papered as much as I could the rust that was in the tank. When I was done the tank had the rust looking color but nothing was really flaking off anymore.

I then bought a used fuel pump on ebay and installed that. While it was off I put new air filter and spark plugs in as well. Bike has been running fine since.
