Default Headlight out.

Well last night I went to get on my bike and the headlight wouldn't go on. I took the bulb out and it looks fine. (blue tinted bulb). So I went out and grabbed a replacement phillips bulb and that still didn't work. Nethier high or low beam is working. I checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Unfortunately those are the easy things. Now it is time to start testing conductivity of your wiring to see if you have a shorted wire somewhere.

If both of your headlights are out, it sounds like a fuse. They are located under the seat. And if it looks good, it could be a bad. Run a conductivity test on it or put a different on it in. Does the bike still start with no headlights on?

Make sure the "blue tinted bulb" is the correct wattage. Its been a while but I believe our bikes take 55w bulbs? If the ones you used were too high you could have melted a wire somewhere causing a short.

Would you say 70w is too much?

uhhh.... ya. 5 watts over and you will blow the fuse. Were you running 70 watt bulbs?

My bike only has a single headlight housing. The blue bulb is 55w. The bike still starts without the headlight on.

UPDATE.

I took it to a shop today and the guy is leaning towards the kill switch. He told me to order one on ebay. For now he wired up the high beam to be on when I turn the key to on. Does anyone know if this sounds right?

no sounds like your starter switch. when you push it in to start the bike, pull it back out. happens all the time with the F4i and there's literally hundreds of posts on it. when you go to start the bike, the headlights disengage to route more CCA's to the starter. i'd do a search before you spend money on something you don't need.
