Default Head Gasket

Ok this is my reentry back into the cbr world. but wanted to make it a little more of an adventure this time. I had CBR when i was 17. Now i have decided i wanted to get a bike that needed a little help and tear into one and know it from the inside out. well as much as i could. I bought a 2001 600 F4I from a friend who said it had a blown head gasket. I remember when he tore it apart. It ran but smoked white smoke i believe. Anyways, i bought it for $500 just to get it out of his way and now i want to try and put head gasket in and get it back together. Whether or not it will run perfect when i get done is yet to be seen. But i'm ready to give it a shot. He did say he had two cylinders that had low compression so i'm getting a head gasket and starting to put it together. Does someone know where i can find step by step directions to putting this thing back together? If not does anyone know where i can find a new motor i guess? Lol
Thanks guys.

ebayyyyy! but buying the engine will probably cost more than what you got the bike for!

https://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-...manual-123975/
thats a good start while you are there you should probably check the valve clearance valve adjustment for f4i, not for the novice - BARF - Bay Area Riders Forum
make sure you don't drop any locator dowels if any, in the engine, and dont drop the cam chain either.
always consult with the manual to make sure you are doing something right, and buy a torque wrench, not a cheap one that has a needle on it.

#4 clyinder head gasket, you may need other gaskets as well keep that in mind read through the shop manual.

I've got a problem. Need some advise. The valve lifters have shims under them. The lifters and shims were all in a bag. Some have different numbers. 198 200. How do I know which ones go where?

before buying a new head gasket, I would check and eliminate the other possible reasons that can cause bad compression. For instance: bad valve adjustments, bent valves, or bad piston rings. you're gonna have to take off the head and test of leaks.

as for the shims, you have to put them in blindly, bolt the cams, and check the valve clearance. Only then, can you do the math and know what shim needs to go where. Do this after you've tested the valves and piston rings for leaks. good luck
