Haven't started in a year
Hi all -
I've been searching the forum for answer on this, but haven't seen with a thread that directly answers this. I have a 2002 F4i track bike with around 4500 miles that hasn't been started in 1 year. I had the oil changed before my last trackday in Sept. 2007 and the battery is on a trickle charger.
My question is: what should I do to prep the bike before starting it up again? I'm not doing any track days until next spring, but I don't want to neglect my bike any more.
I don't want to risk damaging anything, e.g. scoring the cylinder walls, etc. I will replace the gas, obviously, but is it imperative that I change the oil, filter, fuel filter, plugs, etc.before firing it up? When I start a car that hasn't run in a while, I usually pour in a bit of new oil just to ensure that there is some lubrication in the head while the rest of the oil gets pumped upward.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would just start it and seehow it acts. I had a engine that I bought, supposedly was setting inside a garage for no more thana year have all the intake valves stick. I had to use diesel to free them up.
I would spray some oil in the plug holes to make sure it does not score the walls. It will take longer to start but at least you will know it is lubed. Oil, filters, and plugs should be fine to start up, in my opinion. Before you start giving it hell on the track next spring you should change oil and filter.
Awesome, thanks.
What would be considered to be a bit of oil? Like an eyeballed tablespoon, or just a few drops?
Also, to get the spark plugs off, is it recommended to go from the top (remove the tank), or from the front (remove the radiator)?

if you already have the tank off that would be the easiest.. otherwise the manual says do it from the radiator side..
i've always had the tank off when playing with this stuff so i go that way.
