%$#%$ Gum
Depends on its age/consistancy. if its fresh and gooey you need to make it harder, usually you do this with something like liquid nitrogen, seeing as everyone doesnt have ready access to liquid nitrogen you might try getting some dry ice and freezing it, or a can of compressed air keyboard cleaner, turn the can upside down and let it rip for a few seconds, that should be enough to solidify the gum to the point that you can just scrape it off. (to whoever said putting ice on it, it might work, but i dont think regular ice is cold enough to solidify gum enough to make it easy to clean off). I know they sell some gum removal cleaner/solvent but im not sure how that might effect the compound of the tire and they sell a refrigerant for removing gum, but tis exactly like turning a can of keyboard cleaner upside down, so no real use in going out and buying an entire can just for th sole purpous of removing one peice of gum from your tire.
oh, and if its old and hard. just scrape it off with spatula or knife without digging into your tire.

I'd be concerned about using brake cleaner. The compressed air can sounds like a good idea. I was thinking you want to harden that stuff up, then you should be able to remove it.
just a piece of ice to make it hard then pull it off...or just go ride it off...it's not that unsafe ya know? unless it's someone who ate a whole bag of big league chew and then stuck it on the tire.
