You're getting som e real good advice on this thread. My only 2-bits would be to be extra cautious. I just upgraded from a Suzuki sv650S. In my mind a way better beginning bike than the F4i. A V-twin with plenty of power. But as I'm finding out, not near the power of the underestimated f4i.

Yeah, it's a great all around bike. If you have common sense, a good feel for the bike and what it wants to do, then you should be ok. I wouldn't recommend it for a 16-18 year old as a first bike, since it's still a serious machine. Afterall, it is a supersport that was raced until the 600RR came onto the scene.

My buddy just had a SV650S slide out from under him two days ago, trashed the bike, but he had leathers...so hes fine...just a story...no message or life lesson, just adding it in...peace!

I never drove stick before, the cbr was my first non-automatic vehicle. Three months later, as well as 2000+ miles, it's the best investment I ever made. Note that I tooke the MSF class and ALWAYS wear a helmet, leather jacket, and gloves. I love my 600, best of luck on your new ride.

I am 25 and currently in the MSF course. I love this. I too am looking for a F4i (2001 or higher). Some say I won't like it as I am big and should go with a cruiser. I am average build at 215 lbs at 6ft 4. Is that too big ...everyone that seems to be on here shows sizes of 155lbs and like 5 ft something.

I am not an expert but from all the other bikes i rode R6, Zx6, Gxsr and F4, the f4 suits me the most. Now im not saying that it is the best bike in its class, they are all pretty much the same. Deep down in our hearts we all know that. However, comparing just by comfort of seating position and handling in that position it suits me just fine. Originally, I wanted a Gxsr but ended up with and F4i and I think I would have been happy with either of the bikes. So, my advice is ask your friends if you can test out their bikes and see which one you feel confident with.
One thing I noticed it is a bit harder to do tricks on that bike. Going into 12'clock required most forcing than on other bikes. Also stoppies take great time to get, the front brake is forgiving and they do not lock up(knock wood) and its just a bit hard to do since the bike and the breaks are very smooth and not abrupt.
Good Luck, Be safe. Before you gun-it think of your mother, a crackhead told me that once. I found it useful.
