Is this a good buy?
I found an 01 cbr f4i on craigslist for $4000. It seems a bit high but I'm hoping he would be willing to take a little less. Its got 23xxx miles. Custom black paint job, custom chrome and red rims. Its about a 4 hour drive to where its at, but I cant find any other bikes around! Theyre all sold! I can put a link up to the craigslist ad if needed. Do you guys think I would be over paying by far for this? I was gonna buy an 02 that looked kinda rough for 2850 untill the guy decided someone else was gonna buy it first...

I'm just really ready to buy a bike i'm gonna end up spending too much :/ I dont wanna wait till winter for a good deal but bikes are going for insane prices right now.. I feel like its worth 3000 tops but I dont wanna lowball him like that since hes just selling it to pay bills. Any thoughts on where else to get a bike near Detroit Lakes MN?

Based on this single pic, it looks like a nice bike. BUT...IMO, yes, you'd be overpaying for it.
KBB is $2,575 for an '01 in *excellent condition*. At $4K, even w/ mods mentioned, its not worth the asking price. Its not as if he has Marchesini wheels on it.
While availability in certain areas can drive up selling prices, that much of a dif in book value vs asking price, is still a premium. What it really boils down to tho, is what you as the buyer are willing to pay.
Personally, I would be willing to pay a slight premium for a pristine condition bike in excellent mechanical condition, w/ maintenance records, low mileage, etc. However, it still boils down to what that premium is to worth to you. As long as you recognize that you'd be paying way over book & accept that decision, then its up to you.
Good luck w/ your shopping.
