Go Away Decals!

I am looking to do some body work on my bike. One of the things I need to do is remove all my decals, including the ones on the tank. Is there a "best" way to go about this?

I have heard a rumor that I can use mayonnaise and a heat gun but I am weary about it.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

heat definately helps, be very careful not to scratch the paint, it scratches very easily.

Peel them off. Then use wd40 to remove the glue residue. Dont use heat. It will melt the plastic.

You can use a heat gun, or some heat source to assist in removing them... never heard of the mayo part... but be careful with the heat source, if too hot/too close can cause paint to bubble/stuff to melt.

GooGone is some good stuff to invest in to remove residues of most kind... GooGone works very well, little elbow grease needed.....

I used a hair dryer to heat up the decals. There is a fine line between to much heat and not enough. Once you find that perfect amount you can peel a whole decal off in one piece. I found it alot easier to do w/ the help of a friend. One guy heating up the decal and the other peeling it off. To get rid of that left over glue, I used a little bit of heat plus some WD-40 on a microfiber cloth. Take your Time..

As far as the fuel tank decals go, they are clear coated onto the tank. Only way I see to get them off is good old fashion sanding.

^^ exactly what wish said. I've done this a few times.
I've used a heat gun on low a couple times, but you have to be careful. Then WD40 to clean the clue off.... or "oops" or lighter fluid. lol.

Thanks for the info!

So it seems using careful heat is the ticket.

I have been trying to peel them off with a blade and my thumbnail. This was not working out very well. So I am going to give this a shot.
