Default Gear Shifting is not smooth

Hi,
I have a 2002 cbr f4i. When i am shifting gears fastly sometimes it gets stucked and the bike makes a huge sound because i will be raising the throttle. Once i release the throttle for a sec and change the gear and increase the throttle it will be absolutely fine. Is this hanging in the middle of shifting normal or can i do anything to make sure the shifting will be smooth,

Are you using the clutch? Or by fast shifting do you mean clutchless shifting?

If you are doing clutchless shifting it sounds to me like you arent letting up enough in which case the shifter will not allow you to change gears. You still have to let off the gas a bit to shift without the clutch.

That or your timing is just completely off between your closing the throttle, pulling the clutch, shifting, releasing the clutch, and giving it gas. Because it sounds like its completely fine when you slow it down a bit.

Sounds like "false neutral", happens to all sportbikes. Don't sissy shift and it'll be fine.

That too but I've never really had that problem on mine. Even when I'm being lazy. But when I want to get up and go I don't use the clutch, like when a semi doesnt want to use that beautifully paved lane to his left when I'm merging on the highway.

Try an oil change (use the good stuff, amsoil synthetic) and see if that makes a difference. Fresh oil always makes my bikes feel better shifting.

Early year F4i's (like my 01) have very clunky gearboxes and long throws by design. Its not a fault but rather just a characteristic of the gearbox! Don't sissy shift 1 to 2 or yes you will rev up stuck in neutral and look like a dipshi^ ALL gears Up and down shifting in my 01 are clunky and I am just used to it. My oil (Mobil1 Racing MT40) is new and still lots a clunk Changing the oil is always a good think though as we have wet clutches and oil goes through all the tranny parts just as the motor itself so oil maintenance is always good. Some people put star shift kits on their F4i's and thought it is a major invasive install process, they seem to work great!
