I get around 140-150 before the reserve.

Yeah I'd say about 140-150. I don't push it, ever. When we go on long rides we fill up at around 120 if not 100 just to be safe- never know when you're going to end up in a stretch of farmland with nothing for miles out here.

Reallly you guys are getting 150 miles before reserve? Mine usually gets around 120 then reserve comes on. My gearing is stock and I cruise at around 75-80 on the highway usually. Are there any glaring reasons why I would get as good of mileage

What gear do you cruise in? Makes a big difference whether I pop it into 5 on the highway or just spool it up in 3rd.

My reserve comes on around 160 - I usually head for the gas station at about 180 miles or so....

would i save gas if i pop it into higher gear or stay in lower gear?

F4ith 09-28-2009 02:00 AM

Norm, Should be higher gear since you'd be at lower revs.

Paradox, when was your last spark/air filter change? I hear that could help with the mileage. Don't hold me to it though. I noticed better mileage after my NGK plugs and K&N filter.

Seaford, damn haha how are you getting 160? What kind of gas do you use?

Well - for one thing there isn't any reason to think that any of the reserve lights are accurate so the fact that I am going to 160 before the reserve light comes on really doesn't mean much.

As for mileage, the F4i holds 4.4 gallons and if you are getting 45 miles/gallon or so that is 198 miles out of a tank.

Not that it matters but I use BP - 93 octane.

normant 09-29-2009 12:13 AM

they have 93 octane for sale at gas stations?? the highest ive seen is 91.

greatestparadox 09-29-2009 12:19 PM

to be honest, since ive had the bike ive never changed the plugs/air filter. ive have it since about may and put like 2000 miles on it. it has a full yoshi rs-3 system that the previous owner had on it and no power commander, so it might be running rich as well.
