Default Gas Type for 02 F4i?

I couldn't find this in the forum and having trouble finding a definitive answer online. I bought my 02 F4i (600) used and the previous owner told me that he put 91 gas in the bike. That seemed a bit odd as this isn't a high performance bike but I took his word for it. Now my gas mileage is seemingly low compared to what i see other people getting online.

I get about 100-110 miles to 3 gallons. I don't race my bike at the track or anything, just commute and weekend rides. Does anyone know what the owners manual suggests as the correct type of fuel?

She's currently at the shop right now getting a full tune up as I rode her for about 2k miles and figured to get her spruced up. So not sure if this will improve the mileage.

F4i takes regular. Unless the engine is knocking, going up in octane won't do anything but drain your wallet.

there is plenty of threads on this subject, in the states it is, 86 octane (straight from the manual) or higher.. now i have no idea if it is AKI RON or MON.

from wikipedia or something.... ugh
"regular" gasoline in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US
RON 91–92
MON 82–83
AKI 87

There are TONS of threads about it. In fact, it has become a topic that is avoided by many experienced members. These discussions never end well...

Run fuel in it. Minimum requirement per the manufacturer is 87 octane AKI, which is what you have in Los Angeles. Use whatever floats your boat.

Don't even think about asking what is the best oil, filters, or tires!!!!! LOL

Ha! Yea, not seeing the savings I thought I'd make transitioning from my Cage.

Thanks Guys. I was afraid of going an octane too low and hurting the engine. I'll throw in 87 next time and see if my mileage improves. I'll let you know what happens

The engine compression is pretty low, 170psi roughly. i doubt the bike was designed to take advantage of gas beyond 87 octane.

I know this is an old thread but I need to tag along.

I just got an 04 CBR600F4i. The manual says the compression ratio is 12:1. That used to mean race gas on car engines unless you retarded the timing to where it would barely start.

I know this thread started talking about an earlier model CBR600 but is the same true for the 04?

Thanks,

Wayne

Your other thread was answered a few times with the same advice as this one. The bike is designed to run on 87 octane. It should say on a tag somewhere, mine is in the tail. Don't be confused by the recommended octane stated in RON.
