Default RE: gas gauge

stop every 120 miles or so to be safe. if you drive smart, you can stretch it to about 180-200. that's on my bike anyway...

Default RE: gas gauge

Somehow I get the feeling you've never seen the reserve come on...
When you turn the bike on, the gauges do a self test. At the time the entire LCD 'lights' (or rather 'darks') up. You should see a set of black boxes forming a thick vertical bar near the left end of the LCD gauge. That's your reserve indicator. Ride till you see it light. Then you have 30-40 mi to go depending on your mileage. Mine doesnt come on till 150mi on a full tank.

I've never seen 180 in the time that I can remember. But I've had an untuned PCIII for a while, so that doesn't help. I average about 130 before reserve kicks on.

Yeah check for this. The black bloxes should show up but then disappear on start up.

I actually read the manual this morning!!
It says the fuel gauge only comes on when 1/4th tank of fuel is left.
For the gauge to disappear, you need to have all of the following:
1. Fill up fuel to more than 1/4th tank
2. Side stand is Up
3. At least 90 seconds have passed since you filled up.

As others said, check when you turn on the ignition if it shows up on the LCD.
If yes, then try riding and see if it comes on finally.
