...flat tire.

Pulled out onto the street and the steering felt a little off, but I thought it might just be cold tires. Rounded the corner and started to accelerate, and the steering started to shutter. I stopped and looked down and the front tire was low. Blast. It's times like these I wish I had an air compressor.

 

Go to a sporting goods store and get a foot pump.

 

I have a manual pump, but I spent all day cleaning and moving, so I didn't feel like doing anything that could be considered "work" in any way. Tomorrow looks to be a good day though.

For the price they go for, there is no excuse for not having an air pump... and I dont mean foot pump.. I have a 5h/20g compressor for the air tools, but I picked up a nice Husky small compressor with a trim nailer from Home Depot for like $50 a few years ago.. I use it for small nails, staples and pumping up tires... its light, quieter and perfect for that. JMO.. even if you live in a 1BR studio, you can find room for it.

I normally wouldn't have a problem spending money on stuff like that except for the fact that I'm in student housing. Space is somewhat limited and I move fairly often (and I have way too much stuff anyway). Anyway, went out to pump it up this morning and it's all the way flat. Guess I'll be ordering those new tires a little sooner than expected.

 

I have a compressor in the basement of my apartments and thinking of going And buying a small tire compressor. Its a pain unlocking the basement, waiting for the compressor to fill, pulling the bike to the front etc.

Saw one online that lets you set the psi and autofills to that pressure. Looked small enough to fit under a cabinet. +1 there's no real excuse for not having one nowadays. They make them small enough to fit in car emergency roadside kits.

 

Got my new tire put on. Upgraded from Shinto Podium to Michelin Pilot Road Two. The dealership had a surprisingly good deal on it ($141 installed). I've only taken it for a short ride, but I can already feel the handling difference. I'll have a new rear to match by next weekend.

 

Wow. $141 is very good.. a 120/70, right? I found a local place that wants $172 installed out the door for a pilot power.. I thought that was really good...

 

Yeah, seriously. That was all for the tire, but since I bought it from them and brought in just the wheel, they mounted and balanced for free.

The rear, however, is going to be cheaper to order online and take to them. They wanted $190 something plus tax. I can get the tire for about $140-145 online and they'll charge $25 to mount and balance it if I bring in the wheel.
