depends what filters are you using
i used an auto one but it didn't fit quite right, so i splurged and got one from cyclegear that fit much better.
it fit the honda and mobile filters great, but the pure 1 or whatver filter it wouldn't fit right...probably cause one is standard and the other metric.

I got the filter wrench that's a cap type for 3/8 ratchet use, like what you're looking for, for about $12 at the dealer.

Also the drain plug should be 22 ft/lbs with a new crush washer
and the filter should be 20 ft/lbs

+1. Just put on a K&N filter this weekend after having a HELL of a time getting the 2 previous oem filters off using the end cap/socket wrench thing. Its part # KN-204 and I bought it at the local race bike shop for $12.95.
