Stick to 87-89 unless youre getting engine knock, etc like i said before, then go up a grade.
I've always been told to run the higher octane. You are the first to tell me that. but i didn't think about the carbon build up.

Higher octane fuel doesnt give you more power it just combusts at a higher temperature/pressure/not sure of the word to use here. You just need it for higher compression, forced induction, applications and such where a lower octane fuel would combust before the end of the compression stroke(premature detonation). So if youre running a higher octane when you dont need to youre not combusting all of the fuel sooo the rest of it is going to start to become carbon build up and its also just a waste of gas and in turn a waste of money. Some google or forum searches about this should give you a much better idea what im talking about. Ive been up for about 35 hours straight at this point...i hope im making some sense.

It comes down to the tune for using higher octane. For example my summer car is a Ford Zx2. Since its a typical car it uses 87 octane. But why am I using 92 plus? Most tune's on a vehicle/bike come down to timing. Since I am pushing around 40 degrees advance vs the stock 20 degrees it needs to using a higher octane to work with the spark advance to prevent detonation. Hopefully this gives you a idea on why you would use higher octane.

Quick google search brought up this. http://www.orientexpress.com/product...oducts_id=5627

12.8:1 vs stock 12.0:1 compression ratio.

.8 increase in compression with no change in timing would for sure need at least 89 octane, perhaps 91.
