to my knowledge, there is no manual way to keep the rod extended, b/c of the way the wax unit works. however, if you look at my quickfix, you will see how you can bypass it.

Yo, mbibson are you doing " your" quick fix while engine is dead cold (not reading temps) meaning cold wax meaning rod all the way in the unit or when somewhat warm motor rod extended not touching starter valve arm??

It's been a while but I dont think I've paid attention to that. You can adjust the idle with the **** after doing the fix.
