Guys for those of you that know the F4i line backwards and fowards, i'd appreciate some insight here.

Question - Visibly, is there any difference in the outside appearance in the ENGINE only (nothing to do with the bike) between the 01,02,03,04,05,06 models? So, if you had an engine sitting loose on the ground from each stock year model, appearance wise, are they different? if so, what are the differences and when did those differences take place?

While I don't have much experience looking over 04+ model engines, the only difference I can think of is the extra emissions stuff from CA models, but that's present on any model year.

The engines are identical with the exception of the spark plugs on the '01's. There were cat converters on '06's (all states), but that's not really part of the motor technically. Otherwise, they're all identical

 

Thanks...so even the side covers are the same shape, size, color? Example, 99-02 R6's were all silver, and 04-05 R6's had black size covers and head cover.

Are the covers and outward looking appearanceof the 01-06F4i's identical from the 30ft view? if so, then the difference you mention would be the internal mechanics only....huh?

 

Yes, they're identical on the outside. No cover color changes.

 

What's up with the spark plugs on the 01's?
