Exhaust Leak
I just installed a two brothers m-2 canister slip on to my 2004 f4i. I removed the gasket between the midpipe/headers. I slipped on the new midpipe and mounted everything.
It sounds great! But I noticed that there is a little steam of air leaking out of where the midpipe connects to the headers. After about a minute of idling, some water started to drip out too. Any suggestions? Is that bad? I read that some slip-ons have some leaks. What are the consequences of having this leak? Any help would be great! Thanks! |
might seem like a dumb question but did you reassemble it with gasket in place between the header and mid pipe? becauase far as i know they shouldn`t leak at all, the water coming out is quite normal, but ussualy comes out the muffler.

The Two brothers instructions says to remove the gasket between the headers and the midpipe.
http://www.twobros.com/Cust_Service/..._VALE_Inst.pdf 3. Remove the hardware that holds the stock muffler at the passenger footpeg bracket. Take off the muffler. Be sure to remove the exhaust gasket (header/muffler junction) as our system does not use it |
My Dan Moto exhaust also leaks in that same area for pretty much the same reason. I haven't noticed any adverse effects in the last 6 months or so, though I've also wondered if there was any non-obvious bad stuff happening because of it.

Does anyone know if having the leak will hurt the bike in any way? |
Nope, it will not harm anything.
|
I`ll second that
|
Only thing you will harm is a couple HP. but not a huge drastic change. im experiencing a leak this morning. darn two bros pipes. haha but mine is at the midpipe
|
One other thing you could is remove the mid pipe clean the flanges and use high quality high temp exhaust or simalar sealent run a bead around and clamp it up. i use this on my 2 stroke motorcross bikes and on header flanges than constantly leak.
