If you're looking to upgrade your gear, a lot of Shift gear is on clearance. Shift Torque Kevlar Jeans running around $69. They're not leather pants but they'll last a little longer than Carhartts I think. And anything made for riding will last longer than a shirt and hoodie

Actually, I think that is a good idea, I know somewhere on here is a thread for why you should wear gear, squid deterrent. The fact you were wearing what you thought was strong, and the only thing that did it's job was a proper helmet, may speak worlds to at least one person. a before and after of you, and your gear. Would be a good add-in.

As I recently hit a pothole myself and damaged my Rim. Going off of a suggestion here I looked into the State paying me back for the damage and they do in fact offer up to 5k in damages for these kinds of issues. You might look into it for your state.
