Drive Chain problem

The chain can go bad and the sprocket not need be replaced. Get a service manual and look to see if the sprocket is worn. How many miles does your bike have?

You need to replace both only when the sprocket is worn. Although if you got the money and the bikes history is unknown it is realitively cheap insurance that if you maintian the drive it will last for a long time.
