Default Downshift Grinding

Hi everyone. First time bike owner. Just purchased a 2006 CBR F4i with 945 miles on it. Everything seems great so far. The onlything i'm concerned about is this horrible feeling/sounding downshift issue. Shifting up is fine. But when I down shift from any gear, there is a really yucky metal spinning sound from the tranny. I can feel it in my foot through the shifter, and it's fairly loud. It definately sounds and feels not right. Any ideas?
I've tried down shifting at different speeds, rpms, different clutch in points, and of course full clutch as well. Nothing seems to help.
Also, something I found odd. Even with the bike in 1st gear, If I push down on the shifter I can feel a grinding through the shifter.

did you try to revmatch? does the sound go away?
just blip the throttle a bit before engaging the clutch on a lower gear?

The first thing I would do is adjust your clutch!

This may sound crazy, but maybe one of you will be able to make sense of it. The grinding goes away when I have a passenger riding on the back..??? I thought it was my imagination, so I made my friend get on, ride with me down the road, and the grinding went away.. I dropped him off, went back down the road, and the grinding was back... Picked him up again, grinding went away..

Does this make any sense to any of you? I'm trying to think logically how this would be possible.. The only thing that comes to mind ( might sound really stupid ) but could the extra weight be taking some slackout ofthe chain, and somehow that helps eliminate the grinding?

It's probably your drive train. Check your chain slack and check your chain and sprocket for wear.
