yessir. Or pull whatever fuse is on that circuit.

I'm not real sure what it is you're trying to say man. If you're checking a diode then forget about volts for a bit. And forget about your 9v range on your meter as you're working on a 12 to 14 volt system. Set your meter to ohms. Check it in one direction and then reverse the polarity of your test leads and check it again. Report back with what you find.

Wait: You're using an analog meter aren't you? Go buy a DMM

Yeah the ignition diode is a zener. To check the diode he has to look at the voltage of that pink wire that the diode is supposed to drop down to 9v. If its 9 then thats not it but if that wire is reading 12+v than it is the diode. I think were all on diffferent pages here

edit: I think when i did it i just put one prong from the volt meter on each post that the diode is soldered to to check the voltage going through it.

Your basic Diode is used to allow DC current to flow in one direction and not in the other. Used to protect circuits. I would not try to bypass this. I would not do anything with it unless its broken. If you need a new Diode. Whether its a basic or zener diode you can get them at Radio shack for cheap.

Its a 2.2v zener diode. Ive heard people say the 3.4v zener diodes work as well but im not positive. I replaced mine with a 2.2v one and havent had a problem since.
