im not sure if i need the diode i checked it with ohm meter an it doesnt 3look right what kind do i need or where do i get it thanks

 

With your ohm meter it should read next to nothing in one direction and as an open circuit in the other direction. Which diode are you trying to bypass. If it's there it's probably there for a reason. (likely ot protect something). You can get them at radioshack

 

its in the ignition for the anti theft device idk if its bad

 

Take your ohm meter and check it. it should have very little resistance with the probes one one side of it and infinate (OL) resistance when you reverse your probes

 

when i set it to ohm it goes all the way to 250 but when i set it to 9v it goes to 20 on the bad side does that mean i need a new diode

 

I think it means you need a little help usin your meter or you might need new batteries. 9v isn't going to help you. How many ohms does your meter read with the leads one opposite sides of the diode? Then how many does it read when you switch sides?

 

I had this problem a few months ago I blew my diode. But it shouldnt read more than 12v even if the diode is bad since thats the most it should get from the battery. That pink wire that the diode is inline with is supposed to be 9v if the diode is good. Theres a bunch of threads about this here and on other forums and some people say its supposed to be 7v some say 9v im still not entirely sure myself ive just been assuming it should be 9v. Id go back and double check and if its 12v run out to radio shack and grab a new one. I used a 2.2v to replace mine and it works fine. Just make sure its a zener diode. What makes you think its the diode to begin with?

 

I didn't realize this was a zener diode we were talking about here. If that's the case then it needs to be isolated from the circuit (dead circuit) before you can get readings that are going to help you. Disable that circuit and then test the diode.

 

my fuel pump wont prime

 

how do i isolate it from the circuit unplug it ?
