Do it yourself or pay a wrench to do it
What are your thoughts on your baby, doing the work yourself or pay a mechanic do do it? There are some major advantages and disadvantages to both sides and I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions on it.
Both (i am a mechanic)
Pros: I don't pay labor and I get a pretty good deal on most parts.
Cons: I spend A LOT of money on tools.
My stuff is always last in the list if priorities to be fixed.

Tools are one of the only things i can buy for myself that can be justified. And with me buying the bike, not a single other person has touched it in 7 months and its been down to the bare engine block a few times.
Depends on what I need to do. Complete teardown and rebuild I'd prolly hit the shop since I don't have a garage. I'll prolly attempt a valve clearance check this summer just to say I did it.
Completely baffled and out of beer, hard liquor and money to buy more? Shop before I grab weaponry.

For me it depends on what it is. Since I'm pretty new to bikes I would let someone else tackle valve adjustment and stuff like that. Now that I have seen and know how to I could manage chain and sprocket swaps CCTs swap and adjustment and maybe even spark plugs if I had some decent pictures to go by but major stuff or stuff I have no clue about I would pay a shop to do it.
It depends on the work being done. Im no mechanic but know my way around my bike. Living in an apartment complex with minimal tools does not help much either. I got a guy that has been doing work for me for a good price on the jobs I dont have the tools for.
There is nothing better than teaching/learning new things about bikes. I feel the only way to do that is to get that first hand experience. I would honestly do everything myself, it's saves money, and you learn as you go on. If something happens again to that same area you fixed, you know it so well it will come like second hand. I first learned on cars, and it's brought me a LONG way. I can weld, fabricate, turn a wrench, build and engine, paint a car, etc.
Good luck!
Good luck!
For me, it usually depends on the job and the tools on hand. I just do a little homework to figure out how to do it, usually goes pretty well. Trial and error. And how deep your pockets are like Krux said.
