Just depends if the tip is riveted on or welded on. If its just riveted on drill out the rivets take the tip off then get a cutting wheel and go all the way around the muffler. Once you have that done put the tip back on drill out the holes and put the rivets back on

No diagram but i have a thread that has pics of my pipe (same as in sig) finished. Which exhaust do you guys have? If you show me a pic of it ill give you step by step directions. All i did was:
Drill out the 6 rivets that help the tip on mine were 3/8 rivets so thats the bit i used
Pulled the tip off
Marked it all around the pipe where i wanted it cut for me it was right after the m4 sign i just taped off a straight circle around
Take a circular saw or tool of your choice and go around the mark you made
The outside of the can will pull apart and expose the metal muffler part (dont know what thats called)
Then i just cut that with the same circular saw and the same length as the outside
Then i crammed the tip back on (cramming cause of the fiber or baffle i left in)
I drilled out the outside of the can with a 3/8 bit (had new 3/8 rivets) matching the holes already on the tip
Take a rivet gun and rivet them into all the new holes and bam its done took me about a hour

Thats if you have a riveted on tip if you dont then i wouldnt know how to get your tip off but if you did get it off just use rivets to put it back on

yeah the one thing that i noticed if you look down inside the m4 pipe like mine you will see that the inner pipe is longer that the outside shell it kind of sticks into the tail piece so do you cut the inner pipe to be longer?

No i cut the inner pipe the same length as the outer shell. When you put the tip back on it goes into the outercore and the inner will sit right in the tip just as it came stock
