coolant temp issue
a week ago i swapped my transmission gears, temp gauge worked perfectly before i took the motor out, now everythings good, bike works fine except for the temp gauge now, itll jump like 2-10° up or down from the number its showing, ex: showing 158° it would jump to 167° then back down to 160° then back to 168° and so on. im assuming its always actually at the highest temp it jumps to, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem

Does it happen when you go from riding to stopping or just sitting there?
|
all the time. standing still and riding

Could be a misconnection at the sensor. Quick shorts and unreliable signals could be going to the ECM and displaying different numbers. I doubt it's the actual coolant that's fluctuating this wildly.
You can find out to see if the fan kicks on and off at the 200~ degrees area as the temp fluctuates I suppose. Go for a ride, come back and let it climb. If the fan kicks on and off as randomly as the temp is being displayed, you have your culprit. |

fan is hard wired with a fuse to a switch, and i doubt the sensor is fluctuating like that too. im pretty sure i just remembered the sensor connection was greasy when i put it back on in a hurry. lol

Oh haha once you clean out the grease, I'd imagine things will return to normal. :0)
Problem solved! |
