Cold Idle Question

Hi everyone, noob here with a newly purchased 01 F4i... and lovin' it. [8D]
Just a question if you could... when starting cold in auto-choke mode (idling around 2.5K)... do you all find it awkward to put it in gear when it idles so high?
The engine's "ka chunk" kinda sound doesn't sound too great, but it is idling/warming up... just wondering if you all wait for you idle to come down (which can be more than a few minutes on cold morning...) or just go for it?
Don't wanna be hurtin' my baby...
Comments?
Thanks!

That's what I'm asking... does everyone wait out the temp. gauge before considering to put it in gear?
I've been told that "once the numbers appear (ie. 35 degrees +), you're good to go...".
I'd wait out the idle if that's what the recommendation is, otherwise, I'd be on my way sooner...
Experiences?

Yea I wait until the bike reaches its idle RPM's. I don't really wait for a certain temperature per-se but somewhere around 110-120 degrees gets me to idle - 1,300 rpm's or so. By the time I get my helmet, gloves and mp3 player all situated it's usually ready to go.
In cold weather I wouldn't recommend just getting on and riding right away. One day I started my bike up to let her get warm and one of my buddy's cranked the throttle up to 8,000 rpm's or so and the bike sputtered for quite a while after that. I wasn't too happy about it and he got a slap in the back of the head for that stunt!
