Default Chattering noise around 5krpm

Hey I have an 02 f4i that i have about 20k miles on and its been doing it for a while but when i hit around 5k rpm there is a chattering noise that comes from the front top part of the motor. I am not exactly sure what it is i herd it might be the cam chain tensioner. Anyone know what it is and how much it costs to fix?

Default Cam chain tentioner!

I would bet that it is the cam chain tentioner. I have my second F4i and both of them have had to replace them. It seems to be a real problem with Hondas. Hope this helps.

Ive had the problem several times within a few thousand miles...So... I ordered a new Cam chain, and CCT(The black plastic piece that goes on the inside)...not the CCTL though - The metal chunk that goes on the outside.

Yeah, You have to make sure that we're talking about the CCTL there is quite a difference. The porblem is the Cam Chain Tensioner Lifter (CCTL)

It seems to be a easy fix if you want to do it yourself, Just buy a new CCTL as said above me, and a new gasket because you really shouldn't use the old one. And look up the mod to fix this from happening again with the new one. It cost me about 60 bucks at the dealer for the replacement. GL

what you can do to check if your cam chain is too stretched is take out the CCTL, fully extended, and push it in with only a little bit of force. you should be able to push it in so its about 3/4 of an inch to being all the way in. if its less, like 1/4 inch like mine is, your cam chain is stretched or your CCT is bad as well.

might want to just do this so you wont be having more cam chain fun in about 2000 miles like me.
