Changing Oil

Default Changing Oil

I just moved overseas and had to drain the oil before the move. Had Honda HP4 in it. I'm in Europe and the Honda motorcycle dealers don't even have Honda oil and oil is expensive as crap here. I can get Royal Purple synthetic cheap on the military base. I only have about 1000 miles onthe bike. Can I switch to Royal Purple and do I need to change out the filter? Any advice is great andhas anyone used Royal purple before?

I wouldn't use the royal purple for cars. I think it has friction modifiers. RPmotorcycle oil would be fine though.

To answer your question I do not recommend using that oil in your bike.
Also I would def change out the filter.
I have never heard of Royal Purple synthetic?
However I would not recommend any synthetic oil in that bike at all.
I think you would be better off with some good quality 10-40 motor oil.
I would not put cheap stuff in it?
And def change the filter!
I think the f4i requires 3.6 quarts (don't know I run more in my bike because I stunt ride them?) but I am pretty sure 3.6 is the stock requirement.

Do a search on the friction modifier situation, I believe it will say 'energy conserving' or something like that. Alsomoly or molybdium will be another red flag. There are a bunch of posts on this, the answer is out there.....

If i were you i would look for repsol....to my understanding repsol is big out there so im sure you might be able to find it! I dont think youll get around oil being more expensive out there!

And the answer to the question about you using car oil? A BIG NO NO!!!!!! Car oil has as everyone has said friction modifiers! gotta remember that the your clutch needs fritction too and that your clutch shares the same oil with the motor!!!

but lets us know what you find or come up with i'd sure like to know what the solution is over thur...

Royal Purple actually makes synthetic bike oil. I used to run Amsoil in another bike I had and it workedgreat. I need to check the moly content of the RP. I'm going to try and find a filter for the bike next week. Thanks

I believe synthetic is OK, It is the Moly that is bad whether it is in sythetic or dino. There are about 1000 threads on this subject and a bunch of lab tests, but I think that it is the moly that is bad.

where in europe are you? there are TONS of bikes over there from the places i have been (france, belgium, netherlands) im sure you could find someone who can help ya find the right oil

You've never even heard of it, but you already know you wouldn't use it?

Royal Purple is a well-known maker of synthetic lubricants in automotive circles....actually most motorsport circles. It's not "cheap" as in "low quality', it's cheap as in "jtrisler can get it for less through the PX than European oils cost through retailers there." It's just as good as any other commercially available synthetic. With that said, I would not use RP's automotive oil in a bike if I could avoid it. I don't know what the moly levels are, but racing automotive oils like RP usually have more moly, zinc, and phosphorus than passenger car stuff. Some go easy on the Mo and add Zn and P while others go high on Mo/Zn an low on P.....it depends on the manufacturer.

Go find the bike oil. It's shouldn't be difficult in Europe.
