chain/swingarm clearance

Hello everybody...

I crashed my bike a couple of weeks ago :( and I'm currently taking it apart...
I've come across something that doesn't look quite right and I wanted to ask your opinions about this. It looks like the clearance between the upper part of the chain and the swingarm is very small, if any. It certainly looks like the chain is touching the swingarm. Is this normal? Does the chain rise that much when tension is applied?

Thanks guys!

yes it should touch your swingarm a little bit...at least the plastic slider that is on top of it...not metal on metal though. you can check your chain tension by picking the back tire up, spinning it to even out the slack in the chain. pick up on the bottom chain, it should only move about 20mm

When you're not on the bike, the chain will rest on top of the swing arm. That's why there's that piece of plastic there, it helps the chain glide along.

When you're on the bike and the suspension moves, the chain moves up and off the swing arm.
