Default chain conversion

I have a 2001 cbr 600 f4i that is bone stock. I want to do a chain conversion because I find the low end torque to be weak. Should I do a 1 down and 2 up or what do you reccommed. I don't care about going 160 mph. Just cant pop up front end that easy. also where to buy the kit cheap for high quality.

When you say coversion, that usually means to covert the drivetrain from 525 to a 520 size.

What you are talking about is a regearing. Changing the sprockets out to get more power down low at the expense of top-end that you hardly ever use anyway.

Vortex is the way to go. Good quality and cheap. You do not need a new chain or chain tool with some gear ratios. I went down 1 in the front and up 2 teeth in the back using the stock chain.

HUGE difference in power delivery, sometimes it is a pain to keep the front end down in 1st. Second is not that bad and the rest of the gears are perfect.

You can get the new front(-1) and rear(+2) sprockets for under $100 with shipping.

So you literally use the stock chain with the -1 in front & the +2 in the back setup??
You don't have to take out any links or anything?

But the speedometer will still be off

And the 520 is a different chain.....but what's the actual physical difference betweent the 525 & 520 chains??

Will the sprockets work with the stock 525 chain and a 520 chain. Like it doesn't matter?

Yes you can literally use the stock chain with the -1+2 sprockets. If anything you would have to add chain links not take them out.
As for the 525 sprocket and 520 chain question.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! You CANNOT do that. Your stock chain is a 525 so just get 525 sprockets.
The difference between the two is that the 525 is thicker than the 520.
You only need a 520 really if your racing and trying to shave off a little weight from the bike.
Also the 520 chain snaps easier then the 525 chain will.

yea mang...but if you get DID...no snapping!
520 will wear out faster than 525...the difference is in the pitch/width.

weight wise, sounds like you'll save lots on rotational mass, but dude, i couldn't tell ****E!

Yeah, I used the stock chain. Didn't have to mess with it at all.

And the speedo will be off. If you do a -1/+2 regearing, your top speed is around 135mph actual, but the speedo will say 160 or so. So you will need a Speedohealer.

Uh huh...thanks guys!

Yeah I figured that if you offset the sprockets, by going smaller in the front & a lil' bigger in the back, that the chain length might not change much but I didn't know that you could use the stock chain still.

So you just get a 525 -1 front & a 525 +2 rear and then bolt them on and put the stock chain back on and adjust the tension, that's it??
(sounds simple)

And yeah I also read that the 520 sprocket/chain combo does wear out quicker. I didn't know that people did it for weight reduction though....sounds a little extreme. It's maybe a couple pounds......for racing I could understand, but for the street not really.

Another question......what if you JUST went 1 tooth smaller in the front (and got a shorter chain)???

Would that be faster than the -1 front, +2 back setup??? Or what would the difference be??
