Someone posted in a thread they took the stock one and made it into a manual one. I'd rather just replace it if I'm going in there b/c it's such a PITA to get to, plus the new OEM one's supposedly don't fail.

does anyone have any actual video/sound clips of the rattle itself? Not sure what I'm listening for, just got a 2006 F4i with about 6.5k on it and not sure if I should be looking into a new CCT

Default F4i Rattle Not CCT?

So I just started noticing a rattle on my bike. Keep in mind I already installed a manual CCT last year and I tried adjusting it today to stop the new rattle.

So this new rattle I noticed not to long ago, I only hear it around 8000 RPM and only when driving, not while in neutral. My bike hast almost 33000 Kilometers on it now. So I'm just curious as to what you guys think this might be? I'm getting worried haha.

Thanks guys,

I had noticed a very little rattle a time after I installed the manual CCTL on my bike and an engine screw was loose. The bike vibrated a little more, but not too much to think something was loose.

I just checked all of the bolts with a socket set and found the one that was loose. After tightening it, the little rattle was gone.

It could be anything, so I would make sure that all bolts are tight and ride with a single key to eliminate the vibration/rattle keys make.

1) the advice given by these videos do not seem to work, at least not for me. working on my bike, i had to re-install and re-adjust the CCTL several times. the noise still there when i ride.

2) Also, one of the videos suggests that the supposed the rattle noise you hear when the CCTL "fails" is due to the chain rubbing up against the metal innards of your engine. According to the guy in the video, when he took his engine a part, he found evidence of this in the form of metal debris-like build-up. (people in the thread have link the rattling sound to the CCTL itself as opposed to the loose chain.)

I also found this to be false. I took my head off last month to check for bent valves, and to readjust my valve timing. I found not signs of chain to engine wear, much less metal debris. Aside from the cams, the chain is guided by plastic things in the engine. If the chain is hitting anything..it would be those plastic parts.

my f4i has 35k+ miles on it. it's been rattling for god knows how long. So far, I have no found any visual signs of damage.

I agree, those videos are a temp fix if anything and do not address the issue within the stock CCTL.

The manual cctl can be tricky to get that perfect setting, and MUST be done with the engine running IMO. But once you find it, there should be NO noises at all. Keep going for it
EDIT: i re-read and it seems youre still working on the stock CCTL....

...And Yes, the rattle is within the stock CCTL itself and causes no damage at all, just a horrible high pitched "rattle". You are correct the CCT is a plastic arm that rubs the chain (coated in motor oil). metal shavings are a very bad sign of some other sort of motor damage. Many have ridden years dealing with the rattle and no ill effects have come of it...

Hey guys, I am hearing an odd sound when riding my 2006 CBR600 F4I. It has about 3k miles on it now. Instead of starting a new thread I figured I could ask here first since the CCTL was the first thing that came to my mind on a list of what could be wrong.

When riding, everything sounds fine until I hit 5.5k-6k rpm. In that range I hear a bad rattling noise. It isn't very high pitched at all. Below that range and above that range everything is smooth.

I've tried putting the bike into neutral while going down the road and revving through that range, I still hear the noise.

I thought it might be the CCTL but it does not sound like any of the videos I have seen. It is not high pitched at all.

I tried getting an audio clip of the noise but my phones microphone just gets distorted and you cant hear anything of use. Hopefully I can get something with a better microphone to pick it up.

Any thought or ideas on what it could be? Could it still be the CCTL despite not being a high pitched sound? Thanks!

mine wasn't a high pitched sound either. I'd describe it as more of a rattling sound coming from the engine.

Alright, I wasn't sure if they were all high pitched sounds or not. Knowing this I bet it is my CCTL. Thanks!
