Yes. To be correct it is the cctL(lifter) that is making the chatter. It differs but I would hear mine as low as 2500 and as high as 6k!

As an update. Axsys and I swapped mine yesterday (I went with the OEM automatic J24 version) as the chatter was unbearable to me with only 7700 miles on the bike! Axsys did the install but I'd like to think I helped. Its always good to see how things are done and experience the right way to do them first hand. It was a nice chance to clean the underlying frame and parts you never get the chance to get to. Total Install time took about an hour. My OLD 01 stock CCTL had one orange dot on it and the new J24 had 2 blue dots. Did the swap, pulled the key/pin and all I hear and feel now is smoothness...so this is how the bike should have run/sounded from the factory

It is the CCTL not the CCT. If you choose to go automatic rather than a manual APE, then cheapcycleparts has the best price on it. part # 14520-MBW-J23 (its really a J24 version) and the gasket 14523-MAL-A00

what happens if you pull the key/pin before installing? yes it pulled it out once the package came in. I got the automatic J24 as well. can i still install it?

You can wind it back up and put the key back in.

I just installed a new J24 and now it feels like the bike vibrates more... if that makes any sense.. My hands get numb quicker during a ride.
I find the rpm's are higher as well at highway speeds...
Normal?

Hmmm..I think your observations are due to other things rather then your new J24...My hands always get numb regardless and if you are noticing higher rpm's then I think you should check elsewhere or it is in your head!!!!

The only thing I have noticed is that the new CCTL "whizzes" now instead of chatter's and sounds more like a valve, semi-needing-adjusting-loose lifter sound and whiz, more than chatter, which is nice. It sounds smooth but I do notice a "lifter/ticking" sound...but it is WAAAAAY better than the old chatter..when I twist her up, 8-12k it gives a nice WHIIIIIIZZZ!

I remember my old LS1 piston slap...given it didnt hinder performance or reliability, damn it chapped my a$$ and bothered me....

it might be ok unless it gets loose enough for the chain to jump a tooth. Then you;re looking at engine damage like bent valves etc. I'm not sure if it can get that loose or not, but I bought the APE tensioner & it fixed the problem Now every 10000k or when it starts to buzz I just turn it in a touch & all's good. I installed it at 35000k & now it has 74000k & she still runs great!
