CCTL Problem??
I'm hoping/assuming that Tahoe will jump in here & respond.....
Anyways...I tried flaring the dowel/pin at the end of a new CCTL....well I flared it & the play at the tip is gone, BUTnow I'm wondering if I cracked the dowel pin or if I just spread it apart???
In the 2 o'clock corner of the pin it is spread apart & there is a small gap......did Isplit/crack the dowel apart or was it like that before and it just got a wider gap because I spread it???

In the pics Tahoe posted I never saw a line or anything.
So there was a tiny gap in the pin/dowel before, and I just made it bigger then when I flared it, right???
Have you done this mod?? Did it work out for you??

RE: CCTL Problem??
It's the infamous CCTL
(Cam Chain Tensioner Lifter)
It goes on the back of the engine block & it puts tension on the Cam Chain
You've never heard of it??? It's one of the biggest complaints/problems with these bikes.....the tip of the pin starts rattling really bad around 5,000-6,000 RPM & only in that rev range......sounds like BB's in a can.
Doesn't hurt your engine, just sounds like crap though
If you got that noisy problem I just described, here's a Tutorial with pictures on how to replace it:

RE: CCTL Problem??
it opens up at the ends when you flare it. it will look like that cause there's only so much material to go around.
how old is the cctl? the stocker still sucks cause if the tolerance is bad at the shaft and base of cctl, you get noise from there too. but it's good to know it's not from lack of tension on the cam chain.

So the stock CCTL in there is waaaay out of date (cuz Honda revised it later)
That one is a brand new (2 blue dots) CCTL......gonna go in sometime soon & hopefully I'll hear the exhaust/bike instead of the damn BB sound!
