CCTL install?

I need some tips on putting it back in. I've been messing with it for an hour already. It doesn't show any signs of wanting to go in. I know that i'm putting it in the right way. Please help!
Thanks!
Okay, so I guess it needs to be retracted. How do I keep it from extracting? There was no key/pin that I hear about. I'm only the second owner of the bike and the previous said that he didn't do anything to it. I believe him since I bought it with 4k miles. I'm lost, am I gonna have to go buy a key/pin to keep the shaft from extracting?
Oh Ya, just to make it clear, I didn't buy a new cctl, just modded the one that came on the bike.

us.e a small flat head screwdriver in the top of the CCTL and turn it until it retracts. when the shaft is retracted, hold it in with your hand and take the screwdriver out and insert something to hold it in place as the screwdriver would. i would try to explain better but im hav,ing trouble posting

I don't know what to put in there to keep it from retracting
I may have to make my own tool. A simple tool yes, but it must be the shape of a slim cross. Any ideas?

RE: CCTL install?

I'm thinking about rapping it in a zip tie to keep it from retracting.

i don't understand how a zip tie is going to work. do you have any thin sheet metal laying around you could cut up? there may be a write up somewhere around here to help with making a tool.

RE: CCTL install?

The retaining pin is a thin piece of metal and I can't imaging how to make one. It's a tight spot, so good luck with a screw driver (which is what the manual recommends). I would highly suggest you spend the $60 for a new one and be done with it.

I know I'm not the only one that has modded their stocker. Where's Tahoe?!? Unless everyone that modded their stocker just bought a new one.

there is a lock tool, never messed with it but its supposed to lock it in place when you install it then when you unscrew/ pull it out it releases it. Worst come to worse have it trucked to the Dealer they will install it.

RE: CCTL install?

Although nobody seems to worry about it, the manual warns against even removing the CCTL without retracting it, so I wouldn't go trying to install it in an extended position.
