Default Can I spray paint my rearsets?

I really don't like the look of the silver on my bike it's really out of place and am looking to paint them black. I know powdercoating is the way to go but I just don't have money right now so I was wondering if spray painting it could be an option. If anyone has done this before, which paint did you use and what would you recommend? Thanks.

It wont last very long. Maybe a few rides before the paint starts rubbing off.

If you really want to, you can buy a product called Gun-Kote, sold by Brownells (LINK). It's a bake-on finish, very durable. Nonetheless if it were me, I'd save up & wait for powdercoating.

there is a place here in Reno that anodizes aluminum. they do alot of different colors and all kinds of different things. the same company does the hard coating on all the barrett .50 sniper rifles for the military. my buddy has had some of his stuff anodized there and it looks good.

I originally sprayed mine with the truck-bedliner spray......then I re-sprayed them with a ton of different paints. They lasted a week or two, but then chipped off.

I wouldn't waste your time painting them, as it would eventually just chip off or wear off on it's own. I would ship them off to have them powder coated (which is extremely durable and the finish is amazing). I do powder coating if you wanted to send them my way. I've done quite a few people's rearsets/pegs/gas caps already, including all the parts on my own bike and every one of them has turned out amazing.

Here's the link to the thread where I have all the info and prices posted. You can e-mail me at jflure@gmail.com (preferred) or you can PM me if you have any questions.

Powdercoating will rub off eventually as well. Or at least mine has. Took a season's worth of shenanigans to do it, though. Still worth it.

I painted them after I sandblasted them. the paint held up better than i thought it would. You can also paint the ram air intake covers, thats what im planning on doing.

I powder coated my entire F4i wheels frame ect. two years ago, looks like it did the day I got it done. It's all about quality I was on a wait list for TWO months to get the guy who did mine and I dont regret a day of the time it took because it's as smooth as glass

that being said I spray painted my passenger pegs and they look great they are not used often but have never chipped yet but if they do, just spray them again :P

Powder's the long term solution though for sure.

technically yes, you can spraypaint your rear sets. should you? i wouldn't.

if you must..

-clean and sandblast the **** out of it to make the paint hold better
-don't use cheap paint.
-clearcoat a few coats to make it last longer
