Rajas How did that tool work for you? It makes the most sense to me. In the picture it doesn't seem to have threads on it. Does is thread in or just slide into the mounting hole? That way you don't have to worry about the error in the alignment of the laser and the possibility of the bike moving.

Its real simple....no major thought has to go into it.

1st: Remove the fairing
2nd: After the laser is mounted on its stand. Shine the laser light direclty into the engine bolt. Make sure it is in the center of the bolt (it is easy to be off an 1/8 of an inch because the bolt is concave)
3rd: Make sure the bike or laser dosent move AT ALL because any movement will mess up your guide.
4th: Put the fairing back on. Only the the major fairing bolts need to be put back on.
5th: With a marker, mark where the laser is on the fairing.
6th: Drill a pilot hole.
7th: Tape off the area around the pilot hole with painters tape so the plastic that you dont removed stays clean
8th: Drill the slider hole with your bit. Drill slow.
9th: Your done. Install your slider. Reinstall your fairing. Remove Tape. Post pictures.

I used the bolt poking the fairing method and my holes were off by a decent amount. I ended up just making them bigger but they are definately lop sided.

mine left side is a bit uneven and the fitting is a bit tight. thats because i did not use the stand and the bike was a bit tilled. this is a very common outcome with people that dont use stands. but i have never seen any one have butt ugly holes. it might be off centered but it cant be that bad!

you know; when you posted this thread up, i originally thought you were referring to some other holes!

dont make this harder than it needs to be..go to home depot....get a hole saw and remember that slower is usually more accurate when drilling.

some guy #2:

Did you just use the bolt impression on the plastic or the pointed tool to make the mark for drilling?

Mine actually went rather smoothly, even though I was scared to death of drilling holes in my fairing. I used the play-doe method and it came out perfect. It was the first time for me, also.....

...."first time drilling my bike's holes"......Does that make me a pervert?!!
