bt 021 or 016?
I don't know if this has been covered yet; the search function isn't working ATM.
But I'm wondering your thoughts on the F4i?
I know that the 016 is a badass sticky tire, but I also want my tires to last. From what I understand the 021 has a harder center than the 016. So are the sides the same? Meaning I won't lose and cornering ability?
I'm also thinking about getting the 021 rear and 016 front. My 010s rear is near end, but my front has a bit more life left. So my thinking is to have the front and rear wear at the same rate. Could this be achieved with having the 016 up front and 021 in rear?
Any reason why I shouldn't be running two different tires?

It's always better to run the same tyre model front and rear (although opinions differ)
The 021 isn't as sticky as the 016, but it is dual compound.
Having said that, the 021 is designed for heavier bikes, and high speed touring.
I ran 021 or Michelin PR2's on my 1000F which is a lot heavier than the F4i.
My 02c for what it's worth, but on your bike I'd run the 016's.

i hear it is a common thing to have a touring tire in the rear (the 21) and a sport tire (the 16) up front. People do it with michelin and pirelli but I am not familiar with bstone to know if that is the combo people use.
i hear the 16's last a while anyway so why not just get a set of those so you have total confidence in your tures?

Handling confidence in dry yes, but in the rain I think that the 021 will perform better. I don't get caught in the rain often, but it is one thing that worries me.
Do you think that because my rear is currently wearing faster than my front that putting a softer tire up front will help me get both tires to wear more evenly? I don't like the idea of only replacing one tire at a time.

Just put on a set of 021s this weekend. I was torn between the 016 and the 021, but the 021 was only one I could find in a set. 3 different places only had rears of both tires, but not fronts. Seeing as how this is still my first year riding, I went with the 021s with the intention of getting as many miles as possible.
So far so good. I bought the bike used with Pilot Powers on it, and you can definitely feel the difference. The 021 is noticeably harder, and it takes a bit more input to make those low speed maneuvers. I've only put about 30 mi on them so far, we'll see how they hold up.
