Use some drill and tap oil. You're probably getting the bit too hot and dulling it. You should be able to drill into hardened steel with no problem.

some of those drill extractor set have left hand drills, this helps extractor grip better. Good luck. By the way I'm serious there really are left handed drill bits.

This means drill needs to go in reverse, not held in left hand

Hope you get your problem solved...

But I can only imagine it happened because you used standard sockets on your bike?!?!?

That's a no-no - don't do that again!

Good luck.

I would use the extractor sockets, they work pretty well depending on how tight the bolt is torqued. If that doesnt get it you could try dremeling the sides off like someone suggest above, I would probably just drill the bolt head off and then use the extractor though

Bit seems unaffected, except for some black residue, which wipes off easily.

Jaybird, if you are going to drill this hardened bolt, you need to get a COBALT drill bit. I think
Home Depot has them. The titanium ones are ok butare hardened only on the surface. Once you dull the yellow coating, they are done Cobalt bits are hardened all the way thru. So if you have a Drill Doctor sharpener, andsharpen it,you end up with a new bit. Cobalt bits are expensive, but you may only have to buy 1 or 2 sizes. These are the same bits that can drill stainless steel.
This bolt it a mother if it hasnt been taken off...the factory really cranks them on. One thing I have done
is to take another socket that just barely fits, maybe a SAE size and tap it on. Then take a Hand Style
Impact Driver and try to jolt it loose. Good luck.
