Blinking Brake Light
Well I just picked up a 01' F4i and its got a fender eliminator on it with the integrated tail lights. What I dont like is that when you hit the brakes, the brake lights flash rapidly. Anybody know why it does this? Looks like a little bit of a wiring mess in the trunk, and I havent had time to start going through it yet...
it makes it look like im trying to alert people behind me, ALL THE TIME. Gets really annoying...any idea on how i can tell if they are the flashing bulbs or what the relay looks like?
The reason that happens is because the relay is not strong enough to allow it to flash correctly. I have the same problem. The fix is a stronger relay, which you can buy through BikeBandit online. They list two relays, the one you need will be a little more expensive. I haven't gotten around to shelling out the money but I plan to soon. You will sometimes see this same problem with cars or trucks when you hook up trailer lights the turn signals will flash fast. The same fix for them is a bigger turn signal relay. It happened on my old Ford Ranger. Hope this helped. By the way, the turn signal relay on your bike is located in the upper fairing between your headlights next to the bank angle sensor.
use a light tester ( there cheap maybe 3-4 dollars). take out the bulb, put the light tester to pos. and the other side to the neg. if the light inside the tester blinks then its the relay if it does not then it's the bulbs. good luck!
